Be Part Of Team Cul De Sac

This is it!

It’s finally here!

Well, available for pre-order at least.

That’s right. Pre-orders for Richard Thompson’s Team Cul De Sac book, to be officially released in June 2012, are being taken as I type this over at Sparkling Design.

For those of you who might not know, Richard Thomspon, creator and cartoonist, the award winning comic strip Cul De Sac, was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. And from that terrible, heart-wrenching diagnosis, Team Cul De Sac was born. Team Cul De Sac includes over 150 of the top cartoonists and comic strips in the industry working their individual magic on Richard’s amazing characters. A few of the cartoonist’s lending their indelible ink to Richard’s character’s include: Bill Amend, Brian Anderson, Sergio Aragones, Jim Davis, Evan Dorkin, Paul Gilligan, Brad Guigar, Dave Kellet, Patrick McDonnell, Mark Parisi, Stephan Pastis, Jay Stephens, G.B. Trudeau, Mort Walker, Bill Watterson (who some might remember from a little comic strip called Calvin and Hobbes), and myself. Yes, Chuck and the gang get to hang out for a book with cartoon royalty!

When you order directly from Team Cul De Sac, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, to support Parkinson’s Disease research. The regular edition of the book costs $35.00, including US shipping and a $5 donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The book will be signed by Chris Sparks, who painstakingly put this whole amazing project together.

The Author Edition, will be signed and numbered 1-150, by author Chris Sparks. The price includes shipping and handling and a $20 donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

If you have any questions about the book, a special request or needing to buy multiple copies please email Chris at: teamculdesac@gmail.com

Thank you for supporting such a great cause, and picking up one of the best books of the year!

The Empire Struck Back – Fan Art!!!

The Story So Far…

Today we get to see the second part of the fantastic trilogy of fan art that was sent in by Abhay, from Andover, Massachusetts. After yesterday’s first installment of the gang from Peanizles transformed into Star Wars characters, we get a second helping today! This time we have an amazingly evil looking Chuck, all decked out as Darth Vader, or as he prefers to be called Darth Chuck, and Oliver, the not-so-scary monster who sleeps under his bed doing his best Chewbacca impersonation, Chewliver.

Tomorrow, we get the final part of this newest Star Wars Trilogy coming your way.

The Return Of The Jedi-ish…

The Story So Far…

Today we get to see the third, and final installment of the fantastic fan-art trilogy from in by Abhay, from Andover, Massachusetts. In this episode, we see the Peanizles gang transformed into respective Star Wars characters! For the finale, we get a vision of Succotash dressed as Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi, or more correctly, the incredible Tashi-Wan Succobe, brandishing his light saber and fabulous facebook jersey! In the back, just coming over the horizon, two familiar Droids approach, as R2-D2 and Chuck in his alter-ego as C3-PO, or as Abhay calls him Chuck-PO.

Thanks so much for all the hard work and amazing drawings, Abhay!

And keep the artwork coming!!!

Justine Case Fan Art

This awesome piece of fan art was mined by 10 year old Justin Case of Massachusetts. Two of JUstin’s favorite activites include reading Peanizles and playing Minecraft. So, one day he wondered what it would be like if Chuck and Succotash were both Minecraft characters. Awesomeness ensued. Chuck is doing a great job of fighting of the skeleton, while Succotash has his hands full warding of a Creeper.

Thanks Justin! And keep the great comics and drawings coming!

Chuck The Barbarian… And Succotash!

Here’s an unbelivable team-up of fan art that came into the Peanizles studios. Not only do we get a team up of Chuck as a barbarian warlord and Succotash as a fully armored warrior knight, but the piece of fan-art was drawn by the barbaric duo of Willem and Drew, from Massachusetts! Wow. Chuck has never looked as good as he goes in a Viking, horned helmet (well, except for when he hangs with Flavor Flav).

Thanks guys! And keep all the fantastic artwork coming!

Stripped!

I recently had the opportunity to be part of a gallery exhibition of cartoonists, at the Essex Art Center, Lawrence, Massachusetts. The show was a truly amazing opportunity to be a part of a group of exceptionally talented cartoonists.

Above left to right: Brian McFadden, Elena Steier, Norm Feuti, and Don Mathias.

There was the brilliantly funny, and subversive, political comics of Brian McFadden, of Big Fat Whale and The New York Times, The Strip; Elena Steier and her cute yet gothic comic strips, The Goth Scouts, Queen Of The Cosmos, and the Tee Dogs; and Norm Feuti, and his fantastically funny take on working in the wide world of Retail, in Retail, and the charming, and good-hearted tales of Gil.

The show which ran from January through February 2013, was a phenomenal success, and drew people and students all with the same unbridled passion and interest in comics, and the truly American art form of the comic strip. Please enjoy some of these pictures from the show, and head on over to each of the artist’s websites and enjoy all of the hard-work and passion that is part of each comic strip.

Chuck And Succotash… Isabella Style

For this installment of Fan Art Friday, we have this awesome comic strip sent in by 10 year old Isabella U., of Methuen, Massachusetts. Isabella included Chuck and Succotash in their very own urban start up company, the Barber Shop. Chuck has left his indelible fashion sense on her very own charcters. He’ll do that to you.

Thanks Isabella!

And keep those drawings coming!
